Equality & Non-Discrimination Policy

Last updated: April 2026  ยท  Aligned with the UK Equality Act 2010

TownSwap is committed to equal access and fair treatment for all. Every social housing tenant in the UK deserves the same opportunity to find a better home. This policy outlines our commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion across everything we do.

1 Our Commitment

TownSwap is committed to providing a platform that is equally accessible to all eligible social housing tenants, regardless of any protected characteristic. We believe that every tenant โ€” regardless of their background, identity, or circumstance โ€” deserves the same opportunity to find a home that works for them.

Our service is and will always be free for tenants. We do not charge fees that could exclude lower-income households, and we design our platform to be as accessible and straightforward to use as possible.

2 Protected Characteristics

TownSwap upholds equal treatment regardless of any of the protected characteristics defined by the Equality Act 2010:

Age Disability Gender Reassignment Marriage & Civil Partnership Pregnancy & Maternity Race Religion or Belief Sex Sexual Orientation

We also treat all users equally regardless of their tenure type, household composition, or tenure history.

3 Zero Tolerance for Discrimination

TownSwap has a zero-tolerance policy for any form of discrimination, harassment, or exclusionary behaviour on our platform.

This means we do not permit:

Users found to be engaging in discriminatory behaviour will have their accounts suspended and, where appropriate, incidents will be reported to the relevant authorities.

4 Equal Access to the Platform

TownSwap takes the following steps to ensure equal access to our services:

5 Our Workforce

TownSwap is committed to equality within its own team. We do not discriminate in recruitment, promotion, or any other employment decision on the basis of any protected characteristic. We aim to build a team that reflects the diverse communities we serve.

All team members are expected to uphold the values set out in this policy in their conduct and in their engagement with users, partners, and the public.

6 Supplier & Partner Standards

We expect our suppliers, partners, and any organisations we work with to uphold equivalent standards of equality and non-discrimination. Where we identify concerns about discriminatory practices in our supply chain or partnerships, we will take appropriate action including terminating the relationship.

7 Reporting Discrimination

If you experience or witness discriminatory behaviour on TownSwap โ€” whether from another user, a business listed in our directory, or anyone associated with TownSwap โ€” please report it immediately.

๐Ÿ“ง Report to: info@townswap.uk โ€” mark your message "Discrimination Report". All reports are taken seriously and treated in confidence.

We commit to investigating all reports promptly and taking appropriate action. Users who report discrimination in good faith are protected from retaliation.

If you believe TownSwap itself has acted in a discriminatory way, you have the right to raise a complaint with the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) at equalityhumanrights.com.

8 Review & Improvement

This policy is reviewed annually. We are committed to continuous improvement in our equality and inclusion practices. Feedback from users, housing associations, local councils, and community organisations is welcomed and taken into account in our policy reviews.

TownSwap will publish updates to this policy when material changes are made. The current version is always available at townswap.polsia.app/equality.
